Private Event on August 31st: Scenic will be closed to casual requests

We have a large reservation scheduled for the 31st of August that warrants the closure of the hot springs to all other visitors (both those who request and those who do not).

This group has gone through the process of requesting permission and is large enough to be given exclusive access for their retreat.  Please respect their space and privacy to allow them to have a refreshing and soul-uplifting time at Scenic Hot Springs.

Scenic is a great place for retreats, reunions and similar events.  If you have a group of 20 or more individuals and would like to reserve Scenic for exclusive use for a day, feel free to contact Matt or Rick about possibilities.

Meager Creek HS: Landslide near B.C. hot spring traps people

Rating: 3.0/5 (2 votes cast)

A two-kilometre-wide landslide has been reported near Meager Creek Hot Spring, about 95 kilometres north of Pemberton, B.C.
Authorities say an unknown number of people are trapped in the area, which is popular with campers and swimmers, but there was no word on injuries by midday Friday.
“RCMP are saying that a side of the mountain called Capricorn Mountain essentially gave way,” CBC News reporter Lisa Johnson told CBC News Network on Friday. “They are calling it a large-scale avalanche.”
The flow of rock and soil debris has covered a river in the area, causing water to become blocked upstream of the slide and threatening nearby ranchers' fields, Johnson said. Downstream, water levels are dropping.
Meager Creek flows northeast into the Lillooet River, and is known for a series of hot-spring pools on its banks.
“The Japanese-style hot spring, in a natural outdoor setting, offers three natural rock baths, a self-composting toilet, and a change room,” notes the region's page on The entry adds that the spring's clothing-optional day-use park is maintained by Recreation Sites and Trails BC.
In the past, the area has occasionally been closed to public access in the aftermath of landslides, including one that took out the Capricorn Creek Bridge in September 2009.

Addendum:  A melting glacier triggered the avalanche that came to rest atop  Meager Creek hot spring, trapping about 14 campers who were in the area.  Those stranded were airlifted out . . . the only way in and out of Meager Creek for now.  Capricorn Creek is continuing to flow into Meager Creek, which has been completely blocked by the slide, while the Lillooet River has cut its own channel.  They are talking road closures into the upper Lillooet Valley.  Rick
